On the heels of the most disappointing season in franchise history, the Padres cut some $90 million from payroll and rallied for a 93-win season, second-most in franchise history, en route to many picking them to win their first World Series. They made pivotal trades and pickups, promoted rookies to key roles and welcomed heroes back into the fold before deafening silence ended the season when it seemed like the Padres were on the verge of making serious noise in the postseason.
