X marked the spot eight months ago where Long Beach Millikan High School quarterback JP Mialovski announced his commitment to San Diego State.

“Aztec nation, I’m home,” Mialovski said on the social media site formerly known as Twitter.

It was the first verbal commitment SDSU received for the Class of 2025. Nearly 20 other players joined Mialovski with commitments over the past several months.

There were 13 players who made their commitments official by mid-morning on Wednesday, when the NCAA’s three-day early signing period began.

SDSU coach Sean Lewis’ second recruiting class was expected to number 17-20 players. Among them were offensive and defensive linemen, wide receivers, defensive backs, a tight end, a running back.

And a quarterback.

“I have a lot of confidence in Coach Lewis and the incoming ’25 class,” Mialovski said on the eve of signing day. “I can see the future is very bright, and I’m excited to be a part of it. I know this program is going to grow, and I’m excited to grow with it.”

The 6-foot-1 Mialovski completed 62 percent of his passes the past two seasons for more than 4,000 yards with 46 touchdowns and 14 interceptions, according to MaxPreps, com. He is graduating early from Millikan so that he can enroll next month at SDSU and participate in spring football with the Aztecs.

It is a similar path to that followed this year by SDSU quarterback Danny O’Neil, who graduated early from Indianapolis’ Cathedral High School in order to enroll for the 2024 spring semester.

O’Neil used the opportunity to acclimate himself in spring practice. He stacked a strong summer on top of that and then became the first true freshman starting quarterback in SDSU’s Division I history.

“I’m confident in my ability but we’ll have to see how things play out.,” Mialovski said of competing for the starting job. “The goal is to hit the field as soon as I can, and I am looking forward to competing.”

Mialovski is noted for a strong arm and mobility.

“I can deliver the ball anywhere on the field and I can extend plays when needed,” he said.

Mialovski said his skill includes taking command on the field. He said he is eager to be “a leader for the guys, especially the incoming classes.”

“I’m excited to build this thing from the ground up,” Mialovski said.

SDSU’s 2025 recruiting class includes three local players — Mount Miguel wide receiver/defensive back Braylon Cardwell, Cathedral Catholic defensive lineman Sidney Dupuy and La Jolla High offensive lineman Jett Thomas.
