Fantasy Football Week 17: Waiver Wire Targets on Elcajon News only

Your Local SEO and Digital Marketing Experts in San Diego County

Each week I’ll list the best widely available free agents for fantasy football — I define “widely available” as being owned in around half of all ESPN or Yahoo leagues — and some guys who are probably better off in the free agent pool than collecting dust on your roster.

Follow me on X (formerly known as Twitter) @UTEddieBrown if you have questions throughout the week.

Here’s my NFL Week 17 waiver wire cheat sheet for all league sizes and formats, with players you need to add, drop and stream in your fantasy football league:

ADD

QB Anthony Richardson, Colts (ESPN: 53%; Yahoo: 59%): Richardson is averaging the eighth-highest fantasy points per game (20.1) at quarterback since he reclaimed the starting gig in Indianapolis. He has a premium matchup this week against a Giants defense who has struggled with deep passing and against the run all season long.

WR Jalen McMillan, Buccaneers (ESPN: 33%; Yahoo: 45%): McMillan is the overall WR8 in standard formats (WR11 in PPR) since Week 14 with 14 receptions (20 targets) for 191 yards and four TDs in the last three games.

RB Tyjae Spears, Titans (ESPN: 48%; Yahoo: 56%): Spears has at least 66 total yards and two TDs in the last two games and faces the Jaguars this week, who are allowing the second-most fantasy points to running backs this season.

WR Romeo Doubs, Packers (ESPN: 42%; Yahoo: 45%): All of Jordan Love’s principal targets in Green Bay’s passing game need to be rostered, especially with a potentially high-scoring matchup at Minnesota during fantasy championship week. Your guess is as good as mine on who Love decides to target on a weekly basis, but Doubs continues to lead the way in routes and snaps. Plus, Christian Watson suffered a knee injury on Monday night.

TE Chig Okonkwo, Titans (ESPN: 6%; Yahoo: 7%): Okonkwo is the overall TE11 in standard formats (TE9 in PPR) since Week 12 with 24 receptions (32 targets) for 245 yards and a TD in the last five games. The Jaguars are allowing the seventh-most fantasy points to tight ends this season.

BONUS: QB Caleb Williams, Bears (ESPN: 44%; Yahoo: 60%): Williams is the overall QB7 since Week 12 completing 62.8% of his passes for 1,255 yards and 10 TD passes with no interceptions and a passer rating of 102.0 in the last five games. He’s also added 136 yards on 24 carries over that span.

BONUS: RB Jerome Ford, Browns (ESPN: 59%; Yahoo: 79%): Nick Chubb broke his foot in the third quarter of Cleveland’s 21-7 loss to the Chiefs. Ford finished with 104 total yards on nine touches and scored the Brown’s only touchdown of the day. He followed that up with 131 total yards on 16 touches (five receptions) and another TD against the Bengals on Sunday. Plus, D’Onta Foreman was a non-factor with only two carries for one yard, including a goal-line fumble.

BONUS: RB Gus Edwards, Chargers (ESPN: 53%; Yahoo: 48%): Edwards had his best game of the season against the Broncos last Thursday, gaining 68 yards on 14 carries and scoring twice. The Patriots are allowing the seventh-most fantasy points to running backs this season.

BONUS: TE Pat Freiermuth, Steelers (ESPN: 57%; Yahoo: 68%): Freiermuth is the overall TE8 in standard formats (TE13 in PPR) through 16 weeks, and has 24 receptions (28 targets) for 244 yards and four TDs in the last seven games. The Chiefs are allowing the fourth-most fantasy points to tight ends this season.

BONUS: WR Marquise Brown, Chiefs (ESPN: 21%; Yahoo: 32%): Brown had five receptions on eight targets for 45 yards in his Kansas City debut after missing most of the season with a shoulder injury. There’s flex appeal with upside despite a matchup against the Steelers if you’re an underdog this week.

BONUS: QB Drake Maye, Patriots (ESPN: 21%; Yahoo: 14%): Maye is the overall QB12 since he was installed as New England’s starter in Week 6, and the Chargers have allowed multiple TD passes in five of the last seven games.

BONUS: WR Rashod Bateman, Ravens (ESPN: 22%; Yahoo: 27%): Bateman has at least 71 yards or a TD in eight of the last 13 games and the Texans’ defense are susceptible to being beat deep.

BONUS: TE Hunter Henry, Patriots (ESPN: 69%; Yahoo: 49%): Henry has already set career-highs in targets (96), receptions (66) and yards (674) this season, and is the overall TE11 in standard formats (TE9 in PPR) since Drake Maye became the starting QB in New England.

BONUS: WR Kayson Boutte, Patriots (ESPN: 4%; Yahoo: 3%): After teasing us for two months, Boutte finally had the game his usage had suggested was possible, catching five balls for 95 yards and a TD against the Bills. He’s had at least six targets in six of the last eight games.

BONUS: RB Alexander Mattison, Raiders (ESPN: 48%; Yahoo: 48%): Mattison finished with 56 total yards on 16 touches (four receptions) and a TD against the Jaguars on Sunday. It’s never pretty, but there’s enough volume here to get you what you need against the Saints this week. New Orleans is allowing the fifth-most fantasy points to running backs this season, which gives Ameer Abdullah (ESPN: 24%; Yahoo: 23%) flex appeal as well this week. Abdullah had 85 total yards on 12 touches (five receptions) and a TD against Jacksonville.

BONUS: TE Dalton Schultz, Texans (ESPN: 44%; Yahoo: 56%): Schultz had 12 receptions (19 targets) for 119 yards and two TDs in the last three games and Houston just lost Tank Dell for the rest of the season.

BONUS: D/ST Dolphins (ESPN: 46%; Yahoo: 47%): They key to streaming defenses is targeting bad quarterbacks. In Dorian Thompson-Robinson’s four career starts, the Browns have scored 3, 13, 12 and 6 points.

BONUS: D/ST Colts (ESPN: 28%; Yahoo: 48%): Drew Lock has thrown four interceptions and taken 11 sacks in three starts this season, and the Giants’ other options (Tommy DeVito and Tim Boyle) are worse.

BONUS: D/ST Raiders (ESPN: 4%; Yahoo: 10%): The Saints became the first team not to score any points in a game in the NFL this season at Green Bay on Monday night. If Derek Carr is active, I’d pass, otherwise, Las Vegas deserves streaming consideration even without Maxx Crosby.

BONUS: D/ST Jaguars (ESPN: 14%; Yahoo: 10%): Jacksonville held the Titans to 272 yards of offense in a 10-6 victory at Tennessee in Week 14.
