Lenovo is launching two new Android tablets this year with 12.7 inch, 2944 x 1840 pixel displays featuring 144 Hz screen refresh rates. But one is very much a premium tablet, while the other is more of a mid-range device.
The Lenovo Yoga Tab Plus features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, 16GB of RAM, and 512GB of storage and it’s set to go on sale this month for $700, while the Lenovo Idea Tab Pro is coming in April for $350 and up and features a MediaTek Dimensity 8300 processor, up to 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage.
Lenovo is positioning the Yoga Tab Plus as its “first on-device AI tablet” thanks to its Qualcomm processor, which features an NPU that delivers up to 20 TOPS of AI performance… although Lenovo says some of its AI features still rely on cloud services, like the “Lenovo AI Note writing assistant and AI Transcript for real-time voice to text conversation from one language to another.”
But the Yoga Tab Plus also has a higher-performance CPU, speedier memory, a brighter display, a higher performance speaker system, and better WiFi capabilities than the Idea Tab Pro.
The Idea Tab Pro, meanwhile, looks like a pretty decent option for a mid-range tablet. It has a reasonably good processor, quad speakers, and optional support for pen and keyboard accessories (both of which are included in the higher price tag of the Yoga Tab Plus).
I do wish that companies would come to a consensus on whether “Pro” or “Plus” is the indicator of the best model though – it’s a little confusing that both of these tablets have names that indicate they’re better than… something.
