The San Diego Wave’s push for young, international talent continues.

On Tuesday, the club acquired 22-year-old forward Gia Corley from TSG Hoffenheim Frauen of the German Bundesliga for an undisclosed fee. The Wave then signed Corley to a two-year deal.

Corley was born in Tacoma, Wash., before moving to Germany as a child. In four seasons with Hoffenheim Frauen, Corley scored 14 goals and had 12 assists in 70 appearances (46 starts). She made her professional debut at age 16 with Bayern Munich, where she made 14 appearances and started five matches.

“We are thrilled to welcome Gia to the Wave FC organization and the city of San Diego,” Wave porting Director and General Manager Camille Ashton said. “A talented, exciting young player with a ton of promise ahead of her, we believe Gia is an excellent addition to our team both on and off the field.”

Corley is the latest young international player to sign with the Wave during an offseason of roster churn. On Monday, the club signed 19-year-old Nigerian striker Chiamaka Okwuchukwu from Rivers Angels FC of the Nigerian Women’s Premier League. The 2025 roster also includes Delphine Cascarino and Perle Morroni (France), Maria Sanchez (Mexico), Kailen Sheridan and Mya Jones (Canada), Hanna Lundkvist (Sweden) and Kaitlin Torpey (Australia).

Corley’s signing caps a busy week for the Wave. On Tuesday, they announced that they had traded star midfielder/forward Jaedyn Shaw to the North Carolina Courage for $450,000 in allocation money and intra-league transfer funds as well as international roster slots for the 2025 and 2026 seasons.

First-year coach Jonas Eidevall and the Wave will make their debut next month, when they take on the Houston Dash (Feb. 16) and Bay FC (Feb. 22) as part of the Coachella Valley Invitational exhibition series in Indio.
