GMK is the latest mini PC maker looking to launch an external GPU dock that brings discrete graphics to compact computers.

The upcoming GMK AD-GP1 is a 163.9 x 110.5 x 39.9mm (6.45″ x 4.35″ x 1.57″) box that you can plug into a mini PC, handheld, or laptop using either a USB4 or OCuLink connection. It also lets you connect up to four external displays. Unfortunately there’s not really much to set this new graphics dock apart from a bunch of other models that are already available.

That’s because under the hood the AD-GP1 is powered the same AMD Radeon RX 7600M XT GPU used in the ONEXGPU, AYANEO AG01, BoostR, MINISFORUM MGA1, and GPD G1, just to name a few models.

It’s certainly not a bad choice for a mobile GPU. The Radeon RX 7600M XT features Navi 33 graphics based on RDNA 33 architecture, 8GB of GDDR6 memory, and a 120 watt TGP. Ian reviewed the GPD G1 a few months ago and found that it did offer a significant boost in graphics performance to connected computers. But it would be nice to have some different options: perhaps a higher-performance AMD GPU or one with NVIDIA or even Intel graphics?

My biggest issue with this sort of eGPU solution though is that the GPU is not upgradeable. While larger, desktop-style graphics docks have PCIe slots that let you bring your own graphics card and switch to a newer card in the future, compact solutions like the AD-GP1 have a mobile GPU built in. The only way to upgrade to something newer would be to buy a whole new graphics dock.

GMK hasn’t announced pricing or availability for the AD-GP1 yet, but the company has revealed some specs for the upcoming graphics dock. It features a set of ports that includes:

• 2 x DisplayPort 2.0
• 2 x HDMI 2.1
• 1 x OCulink (PCIe 4.0 x4)
• 1 x USB4 Type-C (for data and up to a 100W USB-PD power input)
• 1 x DC power input

The GMK AD-GP1 comes with a 240 watt power supply.

For what it’s worth, the computer also looks like it may not be made exclusively by or for GMK – the promotional pictures the company sent include the word “Brand” on the front in the space where you’d normally expect to see a company logo.
