Like Asus, Acer is updating its Chromebooks for the education market with several new models sporting Intel Twin Lake processors. These low-cost, low-power chips are the follow-up to the Alder Lake-N processors that have been widely used in entry-level Chromebooks for the past few years, with the new models sporting very similar features, but support for slightly faster CPU and GPU frequencies.

The new Acer Chromebook 511 (C737)Chromebook Spin 511 (R757T), and Chromebook Spin 512 (R857T) are all available with a choice of Intel N150 or Intel N250 processors, which are 6-watt, quad-core chips. The new laptops support up to 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, and Acer is offering entry-level configurations with clamshell laptop designs and HD displays as well as higher-priced configurations with a convertible tablet-style design, stylus support, and up to a 1920 x 1200 pixel display.

Since Acer is positioning the laptops for the education market, the company is highlighting their ability to withstand a little abuse at the hands of students. All three models have spill-resistant keyboards with mechanically anchored keys, moisture-resistant touchpads, reinforced hinges, and brackets to reinforce the LCD display panels.

The Chromebooks are all compliant with MIL-STD 810 standard and should survive falls from heights of up to 122 cm (48 inches).

Acer says the keyboards are also “serviceable,” which means that they’re relatively easy to remove and replace: you just have to remove two screws to pop out the keyboard.
