Acer is expanding its Swift Go line of thin and laptops with a new Acer Swift Go AI line featuring a new design (with an anodized aluminum chassis with a “dual arrow pattern” on the cover.
The first two models in the series are the Acer Swift Go 14 AI (SFG14-64/T) and Acer Swift Go 16 AI (SFG16-61/T) and they get the AI in their names thanks to their AMD Ryzen AI 300 series “Kracken Point” processors, which have built-in neural processing units (NPUs) that deliver up to 50 TOPS of hardware-accelerated AI performance. The 16 inch model should be available in North America in April for $950 and up, while the 14 inch version is coming in May for $900 and up.
AMD’s Kracken Point processors are similar to the Strix Point chips that have been available since last year, featuring a combination of Zen 5 and 5C CPU cores, RDNA 3.5 graphics, and a Ryzen AI NPU based on XDNA 2 architecture. But these chips are designed to be a little cheaper than Strix Point, generally featuring fewer CPU and/or GPU cores than their Strix Point counterparts. The NPU is just as powerful though.
Acer will offer two processor options for both the 14 and 16 inch models:
- AMD Ryzen AI 7 340 (6-cores, 12-threads, up to 4.8 GHz, 22MB cache, and Radeon 840M graphics)
- AMD Ryzen AI 7 350 (8-cores, 12-threads, up to 5 GHz, 24MB cache, and Radeon 860M graphics)
Both laptops will also be available with three display options: 2K or 3K OLED non-touch or 2K IPS LCD touchscreen. And both support up to 32GB of LPDDR5X memory, and feature backlit keyboards, 180 degree hinges, 1440P IR HDR webcams, triple microphones, fingerprint sensors, support for WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4, and a set of ports that includes:
- 2 x USB4 Type-C
- 2 x USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A
- 1 x HDMI 2.1
So what’s different? Obviously the 16 inch model has a larger display, but Acer will also offer this model with up to 2TB of PCIe Gen 4 storage, while the smaller model tops out at 1TB.
The 16 inch model is also, unsurprisingly, a little thicker and heavier… although it’s still pretty compact for a large-screen laptop, measuring 356 x 249 x 17mm (14″ x 9.8″ x 0.7″) and weighing 1.5 kg (3.3 pounds).
The new Acer Swift Go 14 AI, meanwhile, is 313 x 223 x 16mm (12.3″ x 8.7″ x 0.7″) and 1.3 kg (2.9 pounds).
