This week Google is introducing a bunch of new ChromeOS features for educators and students as well as the rollout of new accessibility features like the ability to control a Chromebook with facial expressions.

And PC makers are also introducing a bunch of new Chromebooks for the education market. Case in point: Asus has introduced several new budget Chromebooks with support for up to n Intel N250 “Twin Lake” processor, 16GB of RAM, and optional support for 4G LTE.

Asus Chromebook Cr1204Cta

The new Asus Chromebook CR1104CTA is a ChromeOS laptop with an 11.6 inch HD display that’s available as a 220 nit non-touch TN display panel or a 250-nit IPS LCD touchscreen display.

While the display specs are underwhelming, the notebook has some other features that set it apart from budget Chromebooks of yesteryear. For example, is available with up to 16GB of LPDD5R5 memory, supports WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2, and has optional support for 4G LTE. But the system only supports up to 128GB of eMMC storage.

Ports include two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C ports, two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports, and an HDMI 1.4b port and the laptop is available with either a 42 Wh or 50Wh battery. It measures 21.15mm (0.83 inches) thick and has a starting weight of 1.33 kg (2.9 pounds).

Asus also offers a model with a 360-degree hinge called the Asus Chromebook CR1104FTA. This version is designed to be used as a convertible tablet and in addition to an IPS LCD touchscreen display, it has an active digitizer so you can use a USI 2.0 stylus to write or draw on the screen.

This model also has a 13MP world-facing camera in addition to a choice of 720p or 1080p front-facing cameras (the CR1104CTA only has the user-facing cameras). But it’s a little heavier, with a starting weight of 1.45 kg (3.2 pounds).

The Asus Chromebook CR1204CTA and Asus Chromebook CR1204FTA are similar in that the former is a clamshell-only laptop with support for Intel N150 or N250  processor options and up to 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB of eMMC storage and the latter is a 360-degree convertible tablet-style model.

Other specs for these models are largely the same as for their 11.6 inch counterparts including ports, cameras, and even weights and physical dimensions.
