The Asus Vivobook S14 (S3407QA) is a laptop that comes with a choice of 14 inch FHD OLED or 2.5K IPS LCD displays, 16GB of RAM, and a 1TB SSD.
It’s also one of the first laptops powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon X (X1-26-100) processor made for lower-cost systems. So while this won’t be the cheapest Windows on ARM laptop available when it launches in the coming months, its $799 starting price will make it one of the more affordable options.
Qualcomm’s new entry-level chip for Windows PCs features 8 Oryon CPU cores with support for speeds up to 3 GHz, a GPU that delivers up to 1.7 TFLOPS of performance, and 30MB of cache. It’s the slowest member of the Snapdragon X/X Plus/X Elite family, but it has the same NPU as others, with up to 45 TOPS of AI performance.
The Vivobook S14 pairs that processor with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X onboard memory (which is not user upgradeable) and up to a 1TB PCIe Gen 4×4 SSD (which is, thanks to an M.2 2280 slot).
Ports include:
- 2 x USB4 (40 Gbps with video and charging)
- 2 x USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A (5 Gbps)
- 1 x HDMI 2.1
- 1 x 3.5mm audio combo
The laptop also features a backlit keyboard with 1.7mm of key travel, an FHD IR camera with support for Windows Hello-compatible face recognition and a privacy shutter, a 70 Wh battery, 65W USB-C power adapter, and support for WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3
The laptop measures 315 x 223 x 18mm (12.4″ x 8.8″ x 0.7″) and weighs 1.37 kg (3 pounds).
Meanwhile if you’re looking for an even cheaper option, there’s the Vivobook 14 (X1407QA), another upcoming laptop from Asus with the same Snapdragon X processor. That model is expected to sell for $700 and up, but it has a smaller battery (50 Wh) and is only available with a 1920 x 1200 pixel IPS LCD display.
