The AYANEO 3 is a handheld gaming PC with a 7 inch display that comes with a choice of OLED or LCD display panels, AMD Ryzen 7 8840U or Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 processor options, and memory and storage options ranging from 16GB/512GB to 64GB/4TB.

But what really makes this handheld stand out is its modular controllers: the left and right controller sections can be popped out, flipped around, swapped, or replaced. This lets you not only choose the placement of your D-Pads and analog sticks, but you can also swap out a controller module with an analog stick for one with a touchpad, or use one with six action buttons instead of four.

AYANEO began promoting the AYANEO 3 late last year, and now the company has launched an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign that provides more details on pricing and specs, as well as a chance to reserve an AYANEO 3. The handheld gaming PC is expected to begin shipping to backers in April, 2025.

Reward levels start as low as $699ish (the campaign prices are actually set in Hong Kong dollars, so the US pricing fluctuates a bit based on the exchange rate). But for that price what you’re getting is a handheld with specs that are pretty similar to many existing models like the Asus ROG Ally or Lenovo Legion Go: the entry-level AYANEO 3 has 16GB of LPDDR5x-7500 memory, 512GB of PCIe 4.0 (M.2 2280) solid state storage, and AMD Ryzen 7 8840U processor with 8 Zen 4 CPU cores, 12-core RDNA 3 graphics.

AYANEO also lets you pick up Ryzen 7 8840U models with up to 64GB of memory and 2TB of storage, but you’ll have to pay considerably more for those options.

And if you’ve really got some extra cash burning a hole in your wallet, prices for models with Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 processors start at $1299 during crowdfunding. This processor has 4 Zen 5 CPU cores, 8 Zen 5c cores, and 16 RDNA 3.5 GPU cores. But it’s also a substantially more expensive chip, which helps explain the much higher price tag.

A few interesting things to note about those prices:

• AYANEO charges the same price for models with LCD or OLED display options, so customers can choose between a 144 Hz OLED display with up to 800 nits brightness and 150% sRGB color gamut, or a 120 Hz IPS LCD screen with up to 500 nits brightness and 100% sRGB color gamut. The LCD screen supports variable refresh rates and it’s a native landscape orientation display.
• The prices for most configurations include a default controller set, but you can pay $99 for a “Magic Module” add-on that includes swappable controllers with additional buttons, touchpads, and other functions.
• The “RP” models are Retro Power Edition models with colors inspired by classic NES game consoles. The Magic Module is included with these models.

All versions of the AYANEO 3 feature removable and replaceable joystick keycaps, hall trigger shoulder buttons, rear buttons, and a set of ports that includes:

• 1 x OCulink (64 Gbps)
• 2 x USB4 Type-C (40 Gbps)
• 1 x microSD card reader (300MB/s)
• 1 x 3.5mm audio jack.

The AYANEO 3 measures 289.4 x 115 x 22.4mm (11.4″ x 4.5″ x 0.9″) or 34.8mm (1.4″) if you include the grips. It weighs 690 grams (1.52 pounds).

The handheld features a 49 Wh battery and comes with a 65W USB-C power adapter.
