Jurickson Profar is again trying his luck outside San Diego.

The Padres’ All-Star left fielder is joining the Atlanta Braves on a three-year, $42 million deal, according to Fansided’s Robert Murray.

Profar, 32, and the Padres were never close in talks for a reunion.

The switch-hitter re-signed with the Padres for $1 million, plus incentives, late last spring. It was his third tour with the team as he opted out of his deal after the 2022 season in search of a long-term deal. He ultimately landed with the Colorado Rockies when his market never generated much interest and rejoined the Padres in August 2023 after he was released after hitting .236/.316/.365 through the first 111 games of the season.

Last year’s $1 million deal in a familiar place paid giant dividends for both parties.

The switch-hitter paired 24 homers and 85 RBIs with a .280/.380/.459 batting line, which included a rejuvenating first half (.305/.394/.476) that made him the NL’s starting left fielder in the All-Star Game.

Profar had been working out with Fernando Tatis Jr. this offseason, as he had been heading into last year’s rebound season.

But instead of returning to San Diego, Profar is joining a Braves team that was without Ronald Acuña Jr. and Spencer Strider when the Padres swept Atlanta out of the NL wild-card series at Petco Park.

As for the Padres, they’ve yet to guarantee a new contract for a major leaguer this spring, outside a $900,000 deal to keep utility man Tyler Wade in his last year of arbitration eligibility.

In fact, the Padres acquired Profar on a lottery ticket while shedding some $90 million from the 2023 payroll and appear to be preparing to field with a similar payroll in 2025 — they ranked 15th with $183.9 million in 2024, according to spotrac.com — despite raising season ticket prices for a fourth straight year.

The current opening day projection sits at $196.9 million with the team still needing at least a replacement for Profar in left field, rotation depth to make up for losing Joe Musgrove to Tommy John surgery and catching help to pair with Luis Campusano.

Complicating matters, Sheel Siedler, the widow of former Padres Chairman Peter Seidler, has sued her brothers in law to contest control of the team.
