Preview: Carlsbad seeks the title in its first SoCal Regionals appearance. To reach the final, the Lancers beat Riverside King (15-9) in the quarterfinals, then topped Santana (12-9) in the semifinals. Carlsbad won its previous meeting against Santana 12-10 in the San Diego Section Open Division quarterfinals. The Lancers then fell to eventual champion San Diego Section champion Cathedral Catholic. Mira Costa received the top seed after losing in the Southern Section Division 1 final. Mira Costa beat La Costa Canyon (19-6) in the quarterfinals and Brea Olinda (13-6) in the semifinals.

Background: This is the seventh year for the SoCal Regionals, which has 24 total teams in three divisions — including eight from the San Diego Section. In Division 1, Cathedral Catholic beat Corona del Mar (11-6) before losing to Newport Harbor (14-10) in the semifinals. Also in Division 1, La Jolla was ousted by Oaks Christian (15-7) and Bishop’s lost to JSerra (14-9) in the quarterfinals. In Division 2, Point Loma lost 15-12 to Brea Olinda in the quarterfinals. San Pasqual was the San Diego Section’s only team in Division 3. The Eagles beat La Balboa Birmingham (14-8) in the quarterfinals before losing to Reseda Cleveland (12-9) in the semifinals.
