The Gigabyte BRIX Extreme mini PC is getting a modest spec bump this year. The new BRIX GB-BER7-8840 is a 139.1 x 134.2 x 43.8mm (5.5″ x 5.3″ x 1.7″) computer with an AMD Ryzen 7 8840U “Hawk Point” processor, 2.5 Gb Ethernet, and support for up to four displays.
It’s very similar to the BRIX GB-BER7-7840 from 2023. The only real difference is that it has a newer processor, but the only difference between the Ryzen 7 7840U and 8840U chips is that the newer model has a slightly higher-performance NPU that delivers 16 TOPS of AI performance rather than 10 TOPS.
While it would have been nice to see Gigabyte opt for an AMD Strix Point or Krackan Point processor with next-gen CPU, GPU, and NPU architecture, the Ryzen 7840U/8840U processors are still pretty decent chips with 8 AMD Zen 4 CPU cores and 12 RDNA 3 GPU cores.
The mini PC features two SODIMM slots for memory and a single M.2 2280 slot for a PCIe Gen 4×4 SSD as well as an M.2 2230 E-Key slot occupied by a wireless card with support for WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2.
Ports include:
- 1 x USB4 (data and video)
- 1 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A
- 3 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A
- 2 x USB 2.0 Type-A
- 2 x HDMI 2.1b
- 1 x mini DisplayPort 1.4b
- 1 x 2.5 Gb Ethernet
- 1 x 3.5mm audio
- 1 x DC Power input
Gigabyte hasn’t announced pricing or availability details for the new BRIX Extreme mini PC yet, but the company officially launched it this week alongside two new Intel-powered mini PCs, the BRIX GB-BRU7-255H with an Intel Arrow Lake processor and GB-BTIP-N150 with an Intel Twin Lake chip.
