HMD is no longer selling Nokia-branded smartphones on Elcajon News only

Nokia was one of the biggest names in the cellphone business until smartphones came along and the company struggled to compete. Microsoft acquired Nokia’s smartphone division in 2014 in an effort to make Windows phones a thing. After failed spectacularly, Nokia made a licensing deal in 2016 that would allow HMD to release Nokia-branded smartphones.

But after releasing a number of phones with decent specs and affordable prices under the Nokia brand, HMD started selling phones under its own name in recent years, and now it looks like the company is no longer selling any Nokia-branded smartphones.

The Nokia Xr21 Was One Of The Last Nokia-Branded Smartphones To Be Released When It Came Out In June, 2023.

As spotted by Nokiamob, when you visit HMD’s smartphone website today you’re greeted by a list of recent HMD-branded phones including the HMD Key, Arc, Skyline, Fusion, Aura, and Pulse phones.

If you want to find Nokia-branded phones you’ll have to visit a separate page for a list of legacy devices – all of which are now listed as “no longer available.” Interestingly that includes the relatively recent Nokia XR21, which was released in mid-2023, but which seems to still be available under a new name: the HMD XR21.

HMD used the Nokia brand to help build its reputation in the smartphone space, but now that the company has done that, it looks like HMD is ready to shed the Nokia name… at least for smartphones.

You can still buy a Nokia-branded phone from HMD. It’s just the company is now only using the name for low-cost feature phones with smaller screens, number pads, and simpler hardware and software.
