The HP ZBook line of mobile workstations are high-performance laptop computers that typically feature discrete graphics tuned for professional use. But the new HP ZBook Ultra 14 G1a features integrated graphics that HP says are powerful enough to make a discrete GPU unnecessary.

That’s because AMD’s new Strix Halo processors come come with up to an AMD Radeon 8060S integrated GPU with 40 compute units and the ability to leverage up to 96GB of the computer’s memory for graphics use. HP says the new laptop should be available this spring, with a target price of around $1500 for a model with entry-level specs.

HP says despite the high-performance processor options, the new ZBOOK Ultra 14 G1a is actually 20 percent thinner and 22 percent lighter than the company’s previous-generation 14 inch mobile workstation, with the new model measuring 0.72 inches thick and weighing 3.46 pounds.

Like the HP Z2 mini G1a mini workstation PC, the ZBook Ultra 14 G1a is available with processor options ranging from a 6-core, 12-thread Ryzen AI Max PRO 380 chip with 16GB of L3 cache and Radeon 8040S graphics to a 16-core, 32-thread Ryzen AI MAX+ PRO 395 processor with 64MB of L3 cache and Radeon 8060S graphics. All of these chips feature 50 TOPS Ryzen AI NPUs.

While the Z2 Mini G1a supports ECC memory, HP’s new laptop only supports non-ECC memory, but both feature LPDDR5x-8533 dual-channel memory with maximum data transfer rates of 8000 MT/s.

Since the memory is soldered, it’s not user-upgradeable. But the ZBOOK Ultra 14 G1a features an M.2 2280 slot for user-replaceable PCIe Gen 4 x4 storage.

Display options include a 14 inch, 2880 x 1800 pixel, 120 Hz OLED 400 nits touchscreen display or a 1920 x 1200 pixel IPS LCD anti-glare, non-touch display.

Ports include:

  • 2 Thunderbolt 4 (40 Gbps)
  • 1 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C (10 Gbps w/USB-PD, DP 2.1)
  • 1 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A (10 Gbps)
  • 1 x HDMI 2.1
  • 1 x 3.5mm audio

Other features include quad speakers, dual microphones, a 5MP IR camera with support for Windows Hello-compatible face recognition, a spill-resistant backlit keyboard, and a MediaTek MT7925 wireless card with support for WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4.

The laptop has a 74.5 Wh battery and comes with a 100W or 140W USB-C charger, depending on the configuration.

HP has also announced plans to launch an 18-inch mobile workstation this spring. Detailed specs aren’t available yet, but HP says it will be about the size of a typical 17 inch model while featuring high-performance hardware including support for “next-gen discrete graphics,” and chips with up to a 200 watt TDP thanks to an enhanced cooling system with three fans “HP Vaporforce Thermals.”
