The Apple Vision Pro has widely received positive reviews for offering an amazing mixed reality experience. But they’ve also been a niche device since launch, at least partially because of their $3,499 price tag.
Apple has been working on several other augmented reality projects, but according to a report from Bloomberg the company has decided to scrap work on a cheaper, smaller pair of glasses that were designed to pair with a separate Apple device. Code-named N107, the glasses were originally designed to work with iPhones, but phones didn’t have the necessary processing power or battery capacity for a good experience. So Apple shifted its focus to making the glasses work with Macs, but apparently that experience wasn’t great either.
In other recent tech news from around the web, independent reviews and hands-on videos are starting to arrive for some devices we wrote about earlier this month, including the AYANEO 3 and GMK NucBox G9, Google is working on a Linux Terminal app for Android, and you can now use it to run desktop Linux apps (it’s not easy for casual users to set up yet though, and audio isn’t working yet), and Barnes & Noble has explained why you can’t install the NOOK app on the Lenovo-branded version of the 9 inch tablet B&N sells in stores.
Apple Scraps Work on Mac-Connected Augmented Reality Glasses [Bloomberg]
Apple has allegedly scrapped plans for AR glasses that would pair with an Apple device. They would have been cheaper than the standalone Apple Vision Pro, but might have been less useful since they’d be tethered to a Mac.

Barnes and Noble clarifies why Lenovo M9 can’t run the Nook App [Good EReader]
B&N sells a Nook 9″ Tablet that’s basically a Nook-branded Lenovo Tab M9. But it ships with a Nook Hub app so that B&N doesn’t pay a commission to Google when you purchase eBooks. A weird side effect? You can’t install the Nook app from Google Play on a Lenovo Tab M9.
