The MINISFORUM V3 that launched earlier this year is a 14 inch tablet with a 2560 x 1600 pixel, 165 Hz, 500 nit display and an AMD Ryzen 7 8840U processor. It was one of the first tablets with an AMD “Hawk Point” processor. But it’s not exactly cheap: it still sells for $999 and up even half a year after launch. If you want a bundle that includes the tablet plus a keyboard, that will run you $999.
Now MINISFORUM has introduced a new model with a similar design, but less impressive specs and a lower starting price. The MINISFORUM V3 SE is a slightly cheaper option. After launching in China earlier this year for 4499 CNY (about $630) and up, it’s now available worldwide with prices starting at $799 for a model with an AMD Ryzen 7 7735U processor, 16GB of RAM, and a 1TB SSD. That prices also includes a keyboard and leather case/stand.
As you’d expect, you have to sacrifice some features for those savings though. In this case, the tablet has an older, slower processor, a less impressive display, and less memory.
The new model has an AMD Ryzen 7 7735U processor (which is basically a rebranded, slightly faster version of the Ryzen 6800U), which means it features Zen 3+ CPU cores instead of Zen 4 and RDNA 2 graphics instead of RDNA 3. The chip also lacks an NPU if that’s something you care about.
And instead of a bright 2.5K display with a fast refresh rate, the MINISFORUM V3 SE has a 1920 x 1200 pixel, 60 Hz screen that tops out at 320 nits brightness. Both tablets feature LPDDR5-6400 onboard memory and M.2 2280 slots for storage. But the cheaper model only supports up to 16GB of RAM, while the original MINISFORUM V3 is available with up to 32GB.
Otherwise, the two tablets are pretty similar though: they’re both 14 inch tablets that MINISFORUM refers to as “3-in-1” because you can use them like a laptop by plugging in an optional keyboard or as a portable display by using the Vlink/USB-C input port.
Both feature quad speakers, fingerprint sensors, front and rear cameras, and support for Windows Hello-compatible face recognition. And both have two USB4 ports, a headset jack, and a microSD card reader.
