The Padres rounded out their coaching staff Friday.
The team announced that former major league players Robby Hammock and Nick Punto are joining manager Mike Shildt’s staff for 2025.
Hammock replaces Ryan Barba as major league field coordinator after Barba left to become the minor league field coordinator for the Cardinals. Punto, a San Diego native who attended high school in Orange County, holds the title of major league coach.
Hammock was the bench coach in El Paso, the Padres’ Triple-A affiliate, in 2022 before managing in high Single-A and Double-A for the Pirates the past two seasons. The former catcher played parts of six seasons for the Diamondbacks, between 2003 and ‘11.
Punto will be spending his first season as a professional coach. He played parts of 14 seasons, from 2001 to ‘14, mostly as a utility infielder for six teams.
Padres pitchers and catchers report to spring training on Feb. 12. The full squad is due to report by Feb. 17.
