San Diego will welcome PGA Tour players twice over the next four weeks if reports bear out that Torrey Pines will host next month’s Genesis Invitational.

The annual Farmers Insurance Open is set to begin its four-day run Wednesday at Torrey Pines.

The Genesis Invitational is scheduled for Feb. 13-16. It is played each year at The Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, which is among the areas in Los Angeles ravaged by wildfires over the past two weeks.

The PGA Tour announced Thursday that the 2025 Genesis Invitational would be relocated “out of respect for the unfolding situation.” The tour’s statement said a venue update would be forthcoming, though no official announcement has been made.

The Genesis Invitational, which is hosted by Tiger Woods, is among the PGA Tour’s eight “signature” events, with limited fields of the tour’s top players and increased prize money. Its $20 million payout is more than double the $9.3 million being offered this year at the Farmers.

Century Club CEO Marty Gorsich, who is tournament director for the Farmers, spoke with the Union-Tribune last week about the potential — and enormous challenges — of Torrey Pines hosting two PGA events within the span of four weeks.

“No one from the PGA Tour has contacted me, but I know they would have to make decisions soon,” said Gorsich, adding, “I would assume they’re already talking to where they’re thinking about going, but I’m only making assumptions.

“But I could get a call in two minutes.”

It may have been more than a minute or two before contact was made, but it something is in the works. Gorsich did not immediately return a call for comment on Monday morning after widespread reports, first from CBS’ Rick Gehman, of this year’s Genesis event moving to Torrey Pines.

Gehman tweeted: “I have the understanding that Torrey Pines will be selected to host the Genesis Invitational. The combination of 1) keeping it in California and 2) proximity to the original event — were some of the factors that pushed it over the edge.”

Golfweek reported that the tour is in the “final stages of negotiations” to bring the event to Torrey Pines.
