San Diego boxer Giovani Santillan started a new winning streak on Saturday, defeating Fredrick Lawson in minutes at Footprint Center in Phoenix.
Lawson (30-6, 22 KOs) retired on his stool after the first round.
For Santillan (33-1, 18 KOs), the victory provided a return to form after suffering a knockout loss to Brian Norman Jr. in May at Pechanga Arena. The 33-year-old Santillan went down twice in 10th round, including on a fight-ending uppercut from Norman. He left the ring covered in blood and with a broken nose.
Saturday’s fight was part of the undercard before the Emmanuel Navarrete-Oscar Valdez junior lightweight title bout.
