The San Diego Legion and five other rugby teams pushed a 10-ton bus on Wednesday, part of a competition — Bus Push Challenge II — that benefited Rady Children’s Hospital.

USD’s men’s rugby team moved the bus 50 feet in 22.84 seconds, the best time among the competing teams at Dalton Toyota in National City. The Toreros were joined by the Legion, San Diego’s Major League Rugby team, as well as the men’s and women’s teams from Cuervos Tijuana, the Noodle Bagz Rugby Club and the San Diego Surfers women’s team.

The event raised $4,000 for Rady Children’s. Dalton Toyota donated $2,000 toward the cause, a figure that was matched by Toyota’s corporate office.

The Legion open their 2025 season Feb. 16 against the Seattle Seawolves. The team will play its home games at USD’s Torero Stadium after playing the previous two years at Snapdragon Stadium.
