Saturday’s blowout win over Cal has helped San Diego State, both in the polls and metrics.

San Diego State jumped three spots in Monday’s Associated Press poll, to No. 20 nationally. Entering Monday night’s games, the Aztecs were 36th in the Kenpom.com ratings and 43rd in the NET, the system the NCAA Tournament selection committee uses to pick and seed teams.

SDSU (8-2) is also ranked 20th in the coaches’ rankings. The Aztecs are the only Mountain West team to appear in either top-25 poll.

Despite dealing with travel issues that turned what should have been a short flight to San Jose into a 24-hour ordeal, San Diego State rolled Cal of the Atlantic Coast Conference 71-50 on Saturday night in San Jose.

Nick Boyd led the Aztecs with 17 points on 6-of-13 shooting, and BJ Davis and Miles Byrd added 12 points apiece. The Aztecs outrebounded Cal 49-39 after struggling on the glass for weeks.

The Aztecs are off until Saturday, when they take on Utah State (11-1) at Viejas Arena. The game tips off at 3 p.m. and will air nationally on Fox.

SDSU and Utah State have a common opponent this season: UC San Diego. The Aztecs beat the Tritons 63-58 in their Nov. 6 season opener, while UCSD beat Utah State 75-73 last week in Logan, Utah.

The Aggies are not ranked in either poll, but were 45th in the Kenpom ratings and 29th in the NET entering Monday night’s games.
