The new-look San Diego Wave will kick off their 2025 season in Los Angeles, play their first home match a week later and host their former stars during a stretch in May.
The Wave’s 2025 schedule, released Wednesday, features 13 home matches — all of them on either Fridays, Saturday or Sundays. The Wave play three matches at Snapdragon Stadium in May and three in September, the busiest months on their home schedule. For the first time, the Wave will be sharing Snapdragon with another soccer team. Major League Soccer expansion franchise San Diego FC plays its first home match on March 1.
The Wave open their season March 16 against Angel City at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles. Their home opener takes place March 22 against the Utah Royals, and the club returns home April 12 to take on the Kansas City Current. San Diego will host two of the National Women’s Soccer League’s top stars, Sophia Smith of the Portland Thorns and Trinity Rodman of the Washington Spirit, on May 10 and June 22, respectively.
After playing the Spirit, the Wave will break for international play. Their season resumes Aug. 2 with a game at the North Carolina Courage. They’ll host rival Angel City on Aug. 9 and take on the defending NWSL champion Orlando Pride on Sept. 26.
With the exception of returning striker María Sánchez and goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan, the Wave will look almost entirely different in 2025. Gone are stars Alex Morgan, Abby Dahlkemper, Jaedyn Shaw and Naomi Girma, with Girma’s transfer to Chelsea Women FC expected to become official shortly. This year’s team has new ownership (the Levine-Leichtman family), a new coach (Jonas Eidevall) and a general manager — Camille Ashton — in her first full season with the club. Jill Ellis, the former U.S. Women’s National Team coach who served as the Wave’s president, left the franchise in December for a job with FIFA.
Fans can see Shaw on May 25, when she plays at Snapdragon with her North Carolina Courage teammates. Dahlkemper and Bay FC visit on May 4.
