Motorola’s latest mid-range smartphones continue to pack features like 120 Hz displays, big batteries, and Dolby Atmos audio into affordable devices.
The new Moto G (2025) features all of the above and is set to go on sale for $200 starting January 30t, while the Moto G Power (2025) is coming February 6th for $300. The latter model has slightly better specs and a more rugged design: it’s been MIL-STD-810H tested and features IP68 and IP69 ratings for dust and water resistance.
Among other things, that means the new Moto G Power can withstand:
- Falls from nearly 4 feet
- Temperatures as low as 4°F or as high as140°F
- Humidity levels up to 95%
- Immersion in up to 1.5 meters of fresh water for up to 30 minutes
- High-pressure, high-temperature sprays of water for up to 30 seconds at close range (0.1 to 0.15 meters)
The phone isn’t meant to be used while underwater, but it should easily survive a fall into the pool or being left out in the rain for brief periods.
While there are plenty of phones with IP68 certification for dust and water resistance (which offers protection when submerged in water), IP69 certification (for protection against high-pressure sprays of water) is much more rare… especially for phones in this price range.
Other specs look decent, if largely unremarkable. The Moto G Power (2025) has a 6.8 inch, 2388 x 1080 pixel IPS display with a 120 Hz refresh rate, a MediaTek Dimensity 6300 processor (2 Cortex-A76 cores, 6 Cortex-A55 cores, and Mali-G57 MC2 graphics), 8GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, and a 5,000 mAh battery. There’s a 16MP front-facing camera and a rear camera system that includes a 50MP primary camera, 8MP ultrawide, and an ambient light sensor.
The phone has a fingerprint sensor, support for 30W wired charging and 15W wireless charging, and a few features that you don’t often find on flagships anymore: a microSD card reader and a 3.5mm audio jack. On the other hand its USB Type-C port tops out at USB 2.0 speeds.
The Moto G (2025), meanwhile, lacks the MIL-STD-810H and IP68 & IP69 certifications. It’s “water repellent,” but not waterproof. And while it has the same processor as the Moto G Power (2025), the display is a smaller, lower-resolution 6.7 inch, 1694 x 720 pixel 120 Hz screen. While this model also supports 30W wired charging, it lacks support for wireless charging.
