The San Diego Wave have added three more players, continuing their recent foray into international signings.
The club announced Monday that it had signed 18-year-old Colombian defender Sintia Cabezas, Nigerian midfielder Favour Emmanuel and goalkeeper DiDi Haračić to contracts.
Haračić receives a one-year deal, while Emmanuel is under contract through 2026. Cabezas will join Lexington SC of the USL Super League on loan for the 2025 season.
Haračić, 32, is by far the most experienced player of the group. She has appeared in more than 100 matches since making her National Women’s Soccer League debut in 2013. She spent the last three seasons with Angel City FC, where she became the club’s all-time leader in appearances (62) and shutouts (11).
A native of Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Haračić joins a goalkeeping group that includes longtime starter Kailen Sheridan and recently signed backup Hillary Beall.
”Adding a player of Didi’s caliber brings a new level of depth and quality to our goalkeeper unit,” said Wave Sporting Director and General Manager Camille Ashton. “Her experience will not only push our goalkeepers and provide healthy competition, but also strengthen the overall dynamic of our team. We are excited to welcome her to the Wave family.”
Emmanuel, 22, comes to San Diego following three seasons with ZHFK Lokomotiv Moskva in the Russian Women’s Football Championship. Before that, she spent two years with the Bayelsa Queens Football of the Nigerian league, where she won a championship.
She is the second Nigerian to sign with the club. Forward Chiamaka Okwuchukwu agreed to terms with the Wave a week ago.
Said Ashton of Emmanuel: “She’s a talented young player that we believe she can make an impact in this league as she bolsters our midfield with her defensive abilities.”
